ARC, EPA, and USDA Offer 2013 “Livable Communities” Assistance with Developing Local Food Systems

ARC, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) have partnered to offer another round of assistance to communities in the Region through the Appalachian Livable Communities program, which helps small towns and rural communities improve their livability by promoting economic development while safeguarding the local landscape. The 2013 program will focus on developing local food systems as a means of promoting economic diversification. Up to five selected communities will receive a total of up to $250,000 in technical assistance and implementation support.

This is the second round of Livable Communities assistance offered by ARC, EPA, and USDA. In June 2012, seven Appalachian towns were selected for assistance with creating action plans to address local development challenges.

Applicants for the 2013 funding must submit a letter of interest by the close of business on October 18. Application information (PDF: 44 KB) is available on the ARC Web site.
