2016 in Review

In 2016, the What Works Clearinghouse focused on evidence in all aspects of its work.

Finding the evidence

Redesigned the WWC website to make it easier for users to find education programs that work. Users visited the website more than 733,000 times in 2016! Since the launch in September, the site has registered nearly 1,000 views of a video tour explaining the new site's features, publications, and resources.

Evaluating the evidence

Added more than 1,800 studies to the Reviews of Individual Studies database, bringing the total to more than 8,700 studies.

Released 3 practice guides, with evidence-based recommendations for educators.

Posted 8 new or updated review protocols to the website.

Summarizing the evidence

Released reports on 12 interventions across 5 topics, including:

Released 566 evidence snapshots, at-a-glance summaries of the research findings and contexts for every WWC intervention report.

Published 6 quick reviews on research trending in the media.

  • Strategies to Improve Secondary Students’ Writing Skills: Lessons from the Teaching Secondary Students to Write Effectively practice guide.
  • Finding Evidence: New Resources for Education Researchers from the What Works Clearinghouse.

Infographic: Expanded our social media network with more than 6,330 Facebook followers and 6,650 Twitter followers, leading to our most active year yet on social media. Received and answered more than 540 help desk inquiries. Trained 27 researchers on WWC group design standards. Gave 7 presentations on the WWC at international, national, and local conferences.
