SEAB Subcommittees and Task Forces

SEAB has four standing subcommittees that provide advice and recommendations to the Secretary on the Department's four major mission areas: science; energy; nuclear security; and environmental stewardship. Ad-hoc task forces, comprised of SEAB members and outside experts, also advise in specific areas directed by the Secretary. Additionally, a standing task force was created to review the National labs.

Energy

The SEAB Energy Subcommittee is responsible for issues related to DOE’s mission to promote the U.S.’s energy security through reliable, clean, and affordable energy.

Task Forces:

Science

The SEAB Science Subcommittee is responsible for issues related to DOE’s mission to strengthen U.S. scientific discovery and economic competitiveness; promote American leadership in science and clean energy technology innovation; and advance the science that underpins each of DOE’s missions. The Science Subcommittee is chaired by Shirley Ann Jackson.

Task Forces:

Environmental Stewardship

The SEAB Environmental Stewardship Subcommittee is responsible for issues related to DOE’s mission to clean up the environmental legacy of the Cold War and nuclear weapons production. The Environmental Stewardship Subcommittee is chaired by Richard Meserve.

Nuclear Security

The SEAB Nuclear Security Subcommittee is responsible for issues related to DOE’s mission to enhance nuclear security through defense, nonproliferation, and environmental efforts.
