Released: 12/1/2016

Flagstaff, Arizona — The Eastside project has produced piles of debris from hand-thinning of trees, which will be burned the morning of Thursday, December 1, 2016 near Flagstaff and will produce smoke visible to surrounding residents.

The pile burns will be about two miles south of Little America, near Pine Canyon subdivision, and the Heckethorn community. The burns will begin around 10 a.m. and continue through the afternoon, with smoke predicted to move toward the northeast.

Smoke will impact areas near the pile burns and could also impact Harold Ranch, Continental, Walnut Canyon and Lake Mary Road. It will also be visible to those traveling east along Interstate 40, U.S. Highway 180 and Schultz Pass Road.

The public and media can get quick notification of when a prescribed burn or any other activity is happening on the Coconino National Forest @CoconinoNF on Twitter. When ignition of a prescribed burn begins, we update our Twitter account so the public can know why smoke is in the air and where it is coming from.
