70.4% of the Catalan population aged 16 to 74 years is a regular user of the Internet, a figure that has increased by almost 3 points on the previous year and is 5 points above the average for Spain, according to the Survey on the Equipment and Use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Households 2012. By sex, 75.2% of males are regular Internet users, as opposed to 65.8% of females.
The Survey on Hotel Occupancy is one of the main sources of statistics for gauging tourist activity. Exports of high technology industrial products from Catalonia decreased by 3.7% on a year-over-year basis in 2011, according to definitive data from Customs. High technology imports also decreased (-13.7%) with respect to a year earlier.

The risk of poverty rate affected 19.1% of the population of Catalonia in 2011. The incidence of the risk of poverty in children under 16 years was 26.4%, which is 2.7 points more than the previous year. In the population aged 65 years and more, it was 17.7%, which was down 3.7 points with respect to 2010.
