About ORNL DAAC

Who We Are

The Oak Ridge National Laboratory Distributed Active Archive Center (ORNL DAAC) for biogeochemical dynamics is one of the NASA Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS) data centers managed by the Earth Science Data and Information System (ESDIS) Project, which is responsible for providing scientific and other users access to data from NASA's Earth Science Missions. ORNL DAAC is operated by the ORNL Environmental Sciences Division and is responsible for data archival, product development and distribution, and user support for biogeochemical and ecological data and models.

ORNL DAAC regularly partners with other DAACs on EOSDIS activities. In addition to the core EOSDIS partnership function, ORNL DAAC also partners with other organizations.

User Working Group

The ORNL DAAC User Working Group (UWG) provides guidance in the assembly of data and model products needed in biogeochemical studies to address global environmental change issues.

Biogeochemical Dynamics

Biogeochemical dynamics refers to interactions between the biological, geological, and chemical components of the Earth's environment. These dynamics are influenced by interactions between organisms and their physical surroundings, including soils, sediments, rocks, water, and air.

Biogeochemistry, the study of biological controls on the chemistry of the environment (air, water, and soil) and the geochemical regulation of ecosystems, is a central focus in the study of ecosystems, and is vital to the study of our Earth.

Data Product Citation Policy

To acknowledge the scientists who have provided archived ORNL DAAC data products, we request that you include a bibliographic citation for those products that you use in your publications.

Citation information is provided in the documentation that accompanies all our data products and can be found on our Data Product Citation Policy page.

If you have questions about how to cite ORNL DAAC data products or services, please contact the ORNL DAAC User Services Office (USO).

News

The News Window on our home page lists the most recent news items. Older news items can be found in the ORNL DAAC news archive.

Workshops

The ORNL DAAC works closely with its sponsor, NASA, and professional associations to offer educational workshops. These workshops are designed to introduce new data collectors to best practices in data curation and enhance the skillsets of experienced data providers.
