The Current Population Survey (CPS) is a monthly survey of households conducted by the Bureau of Census for the Bureau of Labor Statistics. It provides a comprehensive body of data on the labor force, employment, unemployment, persons not in the labor force, hours of work, earnings, and other demographic and labor force characteristics.

Payroll employment rises by 156,000 in December; unemployment rate changes little (4.7%)

Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 156,000 in December, and the unemployment rate was little changed at 4.7 percent. Job growth occurred in health care and social assistance.

From January 2013 through December 2015, 3.2 million workers were displaced from jobs they had held for at least 3 years. In January 2016, 66 percent of these workers were reemployed.

From April to July 2016, the number of employed youth rises 1.9 million to 20.5 million

From April to July 2016, the number of employed youth 16 to 24 years old rose 1.9 million to 20.5 million. This year, 53.2 percent of young people were employed in July, little changed from a year earlier.

Unemployment rate for Gulf War-era II veterans declines to 5.8% in 2015

The unemployment rate for veterans who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time since September 2001--a group referred to as Gulf War-era II veterans--declined by 1.4 percentage points over the year to 5.8 percent in 2015.
