USAID is the lead U.S. Government agency that works to end extreme global poverty and enable resilient, democratic societies to realize their potential.
USAID finds itself at a unique moment of opportunity. A powerful consensus has formed at the highest levels of the US government that development is vital to the shared interests of an interconnected world. The scale and complexity of the challenges we face are daunting—a billion people live in hunger and the threats posed by climate change are growing–but the tools, resources and capacity to solve these big problems have never been greater. Our success lies in the hands of the talented, dedicated men and women who serve at USAID. Their stories of success, failure, and mid-course corrections to help the world’s poor will be the focus of IMPACTblog.

I am sad to learn about the demise of my friend Mr. Eugene Staples. He was USAID Director in Pakistan and spent a very successful program here. I pray Almighty bless his soul. Pl convey this message to friends and family members, if possible. Regards, Sultan Barq, Nov. 26, 2013
Jeffrey, thanks so much for sharing your story! Thank you for all you have done for USAID.
This week marks not only the 52nd anniversary of USAID, but also the 50th anniversary of President Kennedy’s visit to my alma mater, Amherst College. In his speech at Amherst, Massachusetts on October 26, 1963 (one of the last speeches of his life) Kennedy said, “I look forward to an America which commands respect through the world not for its strength but for its civilization.” USAID was of course a centerpiece of Kennedy’s legacy of commanding “respect for our civilization” and in addition to the millions of lives that have been lifted by USAID in so many ways over the past half century, I am most proud of my own contributions to USAID for the example we have set in the areas of governance, institutional integrity and human rights.

With the U S election predominately over, now in the short time of 4 years to plan, good citizens must do what they can do best for country. I have two projects. First is to help Chris Milligan do what is best for U S and Burma, namely research Dengue Fever to treat the disease and eliminate the infection. I can plan and lead a research institute in Burma and close correlation with Taiwan. The two locations are significant to world peace.
A second world wide project is to control and eliminate Drug Resistant Tuberculosis; first initiated in India, second in Africa and then worldwide. I can present the plan for both; Dengue Fever is most immediate importance.
I would like to be contacted by appropriate person(s) in USAID.
Sincerely
Bobby Joe Payne
hillary has done an awesome job
Great initiative!!Many lives have been changed through ‘Teaching People how to fish rather than giving them fish’.Congratulations Kenya Dairy Sector Competitiveness Program ,Land O Lakes and USAID for using the BDS approach. Not easy to implement BUT when fully embraced the IMPACT is long lasting and the communities empowered irreversably.God bless the people of the United States of America for providing the funds and technical assistance to do this.BDS works !
The blogs are well done. Would appreciate knowing how they are chosen and by whom?
Thank you.
RE: G8 Food Security as it relates to Sahel region. In 2008 via an Army War College paper I called for the creation of the African Bank for Infrastructure Redevelopment and Democracy (ABIRD) because Africa’s resources are strategically important not only to the United States and global competitors such as China but also to terrorist organizations such as al-Qaida. The bank’s purpose, managed by an International Organization, would be to accomplish structural economic change from consumption to investment thereby stimulating economic growth and infrastructure revitalization. ABIRD’s effect: (1) enables African nation states to achieve stability and security; (2) drives a wedge between terror organizations and their fishing grounds of hunger, poor governance, and human rights violations; (3) reduces or eliminates the “hunger season”; (4) accomplishes US geostrategic interests for the continent. To start the ABIRD, industrial nations would be asked to send “cereals” for stockpiling and programmed distribution in lieu of money. ABIRD money would come from the purchase of cereals by Sahelians. The process is self sustaining.
The American can do attitude and willingness to invest in risk is one of its greatest attributes.
Imagine a “DARPA for Development” which is what we have here.
I think they need to go one step further and support new concepts and strategies in systems innovation.
USAID Save The Lives, Create Healty World.
Haiti:
The biggest problem of Haiti is deforestation. ( Charcoal )
I hope, USAID plan to help the country with alternatives
to be a really success.
If it is a serious project, let me know it. I would definitly give voluntary time for this one.
Thank you.
