Duke Energy’s comprehensive grid modernization program, funded in part by a Smart Grid Investment Grant from the Department of Energy, has reduced outages and improved power quality for Ohio and Carolinas customers. By deploying smart grid technologies and integrating them with upgraded back-end information management systems, Duke has improved operational efficiencies, optimized voltage, automated “self-healing” disruption response, and expanded smart grid technologies to other service territories using lessons learned. The case study for this project is now available for downloading.
