Susan G. Gibson

Susan Gibson smallSusan S. Gibson is the Principal Deputy General Counsel for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI).  Previously, she was the Deputy General Counsel for Management, and she has been with the ODNI since its inaugural year in 2005.  As the Principal Deputy, she supports the General Counsel across the full range of legal issues facing the ODNI and manages the geographically dispersed Office of General Counsel. 

Prior to joining the ODNI, Ms. Gibson served for over 20 years in the Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps, retiring as a Colonel.  During her military career, she prosecuted and defended at courts-martial; taught criminal law, constitutional law, and law of war at the U.S. Military Academy, West Point; was the Deputy Staff Judge Advocate for Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland; the Staff Judge Advocate for the Army’s Criminal Investigation Command; a senior attorney at U.S. Pacific Command; and provided legal advice on intelligence operations at the Defense Intelligence Agency.

Ms. Gibson received her B.A. from Monmouth College, Illinois; her J.D. from the University of Seattle; and two LL.M.s: one in Military and Operational Law for the Army Judge Advocate General’s School, and a second in National Security Law from the University of Virginia.
