UCR Quality Assurance Review

The Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Quality Assurance Review (QAR), designed to enhance the FBI’s UCR Program, assesses the validity of reported crime statistics by a UCR program and its local law enforcement agencies as specified by the Bureau’s UCR Program policies and guidelines.

In the April 2016 and July 2016 editions of the Uniform Crime Reporting Program Quarterly, the Criminal Justice Information Services Audit Unit (CAU) informed the UCR user community of a change to occur in the UCR QAR. Effective October 1, 2016, the QAR will be made available by our Criminal Justice Information Services Audit Unit (CAU) upon formal request from a UCR program. Keep in mind that requests for a QAR will be reviewed and prioritized based on the availability of the CAU’s unit’s resources. Once approved, the QAR will be tailored to meet the specific needs articulated by the program manager. That tailored approach may include the current process or components of the recently redefined scope of the QAR, which includes a Service (Qualitative) Review, Statistical (Quantitative) Review, and Special Review.

The FBI CJIS Division fully supports the transition of all agencies to submit crime data via the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS).Therefore, also effective October 1, 2016, CJIS Division auditors will focus their efforts on the NIBRS and will no longer provide Summary Reporting System reviews.
