NOAA Fisheries announces up to $10 million available to support fisheries projects for the 2017 Saltonstall-Kennedy Grant competition

NOAA Fisheries announces up to $10 million available to support fisheries projects through the 2017 Saltonstall-Kennedy (SK) Grant competition.  The solicitation for proposals is open on Grants.gov on July 22, 2016, and will close on December 9, 2016.  New for this solicitation is the requirement to submit a pre-proposal in advance of a full proposal submission.  The pre-proposal process is intended to provide an indication to potential applicants of the technical merit and the relevancy of the proposed project to the SK program before preparing a full proposal. Pre-proposals for the 2017 SK solicitation are due on September 20, 2016, and should be sent via email to NMFS.SK.PreProposals@noaa.gov.

The goal of the program is to fund projects that address the needs of fishing communities, optimize economic benefits by building and maintaining sustainable fisheries, and increase other opportunities to keep working waterfronts viable.  The FY17 solicitation seeks applicants that fall into seven priorities. NOAA Announces FY2016 Recommended Projects

NOAA is announcing over $11 million in funding for 50 recommended projects under the FY16 Saltonstall-Kennedy Grants Program.  Projects  will be funded in every region of the country and in the territories including Alaska; the Greater Atlantic; the West Coast; Pacific Islands, the Southeast, Gulf and Caribbean; and in US territories.

The recommended projects fall into seven research priorities and touch on every aspect of marine research, including fishery data collection, socioeconomics, fishing gear and bycatch, aquaculture, seafood promotion, development and marketing, and the effects of climate change. 

Of the 50 projects selected nationally, 22 projects are in the Greater Atlantic Region requesting over $4.6 million in federal support.

On October 22, 2015 NOAA Fisheries held an informational webinar to provide an overview of the Saltonstall-Kennedy Grants Program application process and to answer questions from interested applicants.  Please find a copy of the presentation HERE.

NOAA Announces FY2014 Recommended Projects

NOAA is announcing over $25 million in funding for 88 recommended projects under the FY14-15 Saltonstall-Kennedy Grants Program.  Projects  will be funded in every region of the country and in the territories including Alaska; the Greater Atlantic; the West Coast; Pacific Islands, the Southeast, Gulf and Caribbean; and in US territories.

Research priorities for 2014/2015 included: maximizing fishing opportunities and jobs, improving the cost effectiveness and capacity for observations, increase the supply, quality, and diversification of domestic seafood, and improve the quality and quantity of fishery information from the U.S. territories. 

Of the 88 projects selected nationally, 33 projects are in the Greater Atlantic Region requesting over $8.8 million in federal support.
