The Sustainable Highways Initiative supports programs and activities conducted across the Federal Highway Administration to facilitate balanced decision-making among environmental, economic, and social values - the triple bottom line of sustainability. FHWA’s Sustainable Highways Initiative website contains more information on FHWA’s sustainability work, along with resources, publications, news, and events.
Developed as part of the Sustainable Highways Initiative, INVEST is FHWA’s sustainability self-assessment tool. It allows transportation agencies to score the sustainability of their transportation projects, plans, and programs, and identify areas for further improvement.
