ECS Metadata

Meaningful, long lived and standard metadata are essential to the ECS Project. The ECS Data Management Team will utilize and integrate common templates for all metadata using controlled vocabulary for science parameters, measurement units, platforms, instruments, programs, formats, domain specific content, etc. Existing national and international standards will be used to the extent possible (ISO¹, NARA², IGSN³, etc.). The Data Management Team will work with other agencies and institutions to develop new templates or strengthen metadata standards and vocabularies to support the ECS Project. Metadata management software will support ingest, creation, versioning, and delivery in standards-based and human readable formats.
