Crop Diseases, Pests and Genetics Research Unit scientists develop unique and improved methods to minimize production losses in horticultural crops in California by pathogens and insect pests; and develop improved grape, almond and stone fruit cultivars.
Commodity Protection and Quality Research Unit scientists develop alternatives to replace methyl bromide postharvest use on horticultural products to meet quarantine and export needs, ensure quality maintenance, and reduce postharvest losses caused by senescence, pathogens and insect pests.
Water Management Research Unit scientists develop sustainable water management strategies with limited water, reduce environmental impact of irrigated agriculture, and develop cost-effective and environmentally-safe practices for managing soilborne pests.
The National Arid Land Plant Genetic Resource Unit is a long season, mild climate grow-out site for the National Plant Germplasm System and a conservation site for arid land plant species with potential as industrial crops.
