Ringing in the New Year by giving back

As the New Year rang in with celebrations around the world, NNSA team members didn’t drop any balls when it came to giving back to their communities. In southern Nevada, NNSA’s Nevada National Security Site (NNSS), employees provided toys, clothes, and household items to thousands of children as part of NNSS employees’ annual giving campaigns.

NNSS team members also donated to community organizations, including the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program, an elementary school, and Toys for Tots. They also provided food, clothing, and household items for families in need. Nevada employees donated meals to the Las Vegas Rescue Mission, and NNSS Fire and Rescue partnered with the Southern Nevada Burn Foundation to collect toys for more than 26,000 children. In addition to the gifted items, Nevada team members pledged more than $249,000 to the United Way of Southern Nevada and the Combined Federal Campaign charitable giving campaigns.

Many children in the Midwest are still feeling holiday warmth because of support for Coats for Kids from NNSA Kansas City National Security Campus management and operating contractor (M&O) Honeywell.

In South Carolina, Savannah River Site (SRS)  team members reached a milestone this season, exceeding 375,000 toys collected since the start of SRS Toys for Tots campaigns in 1991, and collecting more than 12,000 toys for this year’s drive. Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, SRS’s M&O, also provides corporate monetary gifts to further add to the success of local giving programs.

Meanwhile, NNSA’s Sandia National Laboratories’ team members powered through an unusually wet California winter storm to host the annual Toys for Tots block party with local members of the U.S. Marine Corps. They made holidays brighter for local children by contributing more than 500 toys to the Toys for Tots campaign spearheaded by the Sandia Security Operations.

Employees at the Savannah River Site celebrated 25 years of support for the Marine Corps' Toys for Tots program with the collection of more than 12,000 toys this year and over 375,000 toys since the start of SRS Toys for Tots campaigns in 1991.
