Population Domains

The breakdown of the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) population into six domains serves as an organizing concept for States in summarizing their programmatic strategies, accomplishments, and impacts as they address their priority needs. The six population domains are Women/Maternal Health, Perinatal/Infant Health, Child Health, Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN), Adolescent Health, and Cross-cutting /Life Course.

^States are required to report data on Children (ages 1-22 years) as one of the three legislatively defined MCH populations. This data is used for reporting purposes for both the Child and Adolescent Health Population Domains.

*Others– Women of childbearing age, over age 21, and any others defined by the State who are not otherwise included in any of the other listed classes of individuals.
