THE BRONX - Officials broke ground Thursday on a new extension that will connect two Bronx parks.

The Bronx River Greenway project will connect Starlight Park and Concrete Plant Park.

"It closes the gap between Starlight Park and Concrete Plant Park so people can travel continuously and enjoy the river from there," says Linda Cox, Bronx River Administrator for Parks.

The project is all part of an extension to the Bronx River Greenway, a 23-mile continuous path next to the Bronx River into Westchester, providing access to parks along the way.

"The Bronx River can be cleaned up, that Starlight Park can be what it is today with people kayaking and canoeing," says Bronx Borough President Rueben Diaz Jr.

The project received nearly $40 million raised by various city officials and will include further developments like the creation of a bridge over the Amtrak tracks and restoring the river's wetlands, allowing residents to make the most of their environment.
