Shared Savings Program Accountable Care Organizations (ACO) PUF

SSP ACO PUF - To address the increasing number of requests for SSP ACO data, the Centers for Medicare (CM) has created a standard analytical file that CMS can use to efficiently satisfy these requests. It is the intent of CM to publish the ACO-level public-use file (PUF) that contains ACO-specific metrics as well as summarized beneficiary and provider information for each performance year of the Shared Savings Program.

Data Alert: The 2013 Shared Savings Program Accountable Care Organization (ACO) Public Use File (PUF) has been updated to include for each ACO the mean final prospective CMS-HCC risk score for the four Medicare enrollment types (ESRD, disabled, aged/dual, aged/non-dual) for each of the three benchmark years and calendar year 2013 risk scores for performance year 1.  The risk scores are based on the applicable risk adjustment model for that year and renormalized so that the mean national FFS risk score equals 1.0. Risk scores for each enrollment type are renormalized to their own populations and thus are not on the same scale and not comparable.

Data Alert: The 2014 Performance Year Shared Savings Program ACO PUF has been made available.

  • Several variables have been added to the 2014 file and are further defined in the supporting documentation
         (Dictionary file):
    • State(s) where beneficiaries reside
    • Advance Payment Recoupment Amount
    • Hospital Outpatient Expenditures
    • Average expenditures for Aged, Dual, Non-Dual, Disabled and ESRD enrollment types for benchmark years
           1, 2, 3
    • Average Aged, Dual, Non-Dual, Disabled, ESRD HCC risk scores in PY and benchmark years 1, 2, 3
    • Average Historical Benchmark
    • Number of Assigned Beneficiaries with enrollment types; Aged, Dual, Non-Dual, Disabled, ESRD in PY

Data Alert: The 2015 Performance Year Shared Savings Program ACO PUF has been made available.
