National Fish Habitat Partnership (NFHP)

The National Fish Habitat Action Plan was initiated in 2001 to develop strong local and regional partnerships to protect and restore key fish habitats. The Action Plan has since evolved into the National Fish Habitat Partnership (NFHP) and has grown to 19 partnerships spanning all 50 states.  The mission of NFHP is “to protect, restore and enhance the nation's fish and aquatic communities through partnerships that foster fish habitat conservation and improve the quality of life for the American people.”

The Mountain-Prairie Region of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service spans a geographic area that includes five NFHP fish habitat partnerships: the Great Plains Fish Habitat Partnership, the Western Native Trout Initiative, the Desert Fish Habitat Partnership, the Reservoir Fish Habitat Partnership and a small portion of the Midwest Glacial Lakes Fish Habitat Partnership.  The Region is the lead for the Great Plains FHP. All partnerships solicit projects once a year through a request-for-proposals process that is administered by their respective governing boards.  Groups and individuals wishing to submit project proposals may review the requirements of each partnership and apply for project funding through the websites listed below.  Information is also available through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife, Regional NFHP Coordinator at the address listed below.
