Protecting and Enhancing our Natural Resources
NRCS offers easement programs to landowners who want to maintain or enhance their land in a way beneficial to agriculture and/or the environment. All NRCS easement programs are voluntary. We provide technical help and financial assistance, but local landowners and organizations are needed to make NRCS easement programs successful.
Our easement programs include the following:
- Agricultural Land Easements focus on working farms and ranches to help landowners keep their land in agriculture, whether it is cropland, pastureland, grassland, rangeland, or non-industrial private forest lands.
NRCS is accepting ACEP proposals from eligible entities that have an established farm and ranch land protection program, funds to match the federal contribution, authority to hold and manage easements, and the capacity to acquire, manage, and enforce easements. Application packages are due January 16, 2017.

- Wetland Reserve Easements help to protect, restore, and enhance wetlands and includes farmed or converted wetland that can be restored.
Interested land owners must meet all landowner eligibility criteria and submit the following documents to their local NRCS field office by January 16, 2017 for consideration in the current funding cycle. Applications received after this date will be considered for funding in fiscal year 2018.
