STRI Panama

This Azuero mountain gem hummingbird is an endemic species found in Cerro Hoya National Park, a roughly 120-square mile protected area on Panama’s Azuero Peninsula. This member of the genus Lampornis is currently being described as a new species by scientists at STRI.
