Meteorological Assimilation Data Ingest System (MADIS)

Meteorological Assimilation Data Ingest System (MADIS) is an observational database and delivery system which integrates real-time observations from a wide variety of observing infrastructures to make them useable for NWP models and nowcasting.

Objectives

Add and integrate new NOAA and non-NOAA sources of weather and climate observations to the MADIS database.

Customer/beneficiary

NWS and NESDIS, private sector, weather enterprise

Milestones and deliverables

  • Transition MADIS to full operations capability within NOAA
  • Add NOAA and non-NOAA stations to feed observation data to MADIS from research to operations
  • Annual number of tasks performed to transition MADIS components and functions to NWS operations toward achieving final Operational Transition of the MADIS technology to NWS operations
