Video – Fisheries in the California Current Large Marine Ecosystem
The California Current Ecosystem spans from Baja Mexico to Washington. In 2010, U.S. commercial fishermen landed 1.1 billion pounds of fish and earned $554 million in landings revenue from this ecosystem. Successfully managing these marine species in today’s busy ocean requires us to understand the entire ecosystem and suite of impacts on their survival.
This video describes some of the key or “hero” species within this ecosystem, as well as common stressors to these and other species. This video is also an example of a visualization tool that NOAA Fisheries has developed to better communicate the framework and findings of ecosystem models.
