Birding on the Hatchery Birders should be able to view a variety of migratory waterfowl, shore birds, and song birds. A pair of bald eagles has been overwintering at the hatchery for many years, generally arriving in early December and leaving in mid-March. Flora & Fauna The grist mill is located on Pennington Creek at the entrance to the hatchery's one-mile Nature Trail, which is available for visitors seven days a week as a source of watchable wildlife, waterfalls, hardwood trees, and granite outcroppings. Rare Seaside alder trees stand at attention along the banks of creek where the waterfalls and granite rock outcroppings, some of the oldest rock formations in the mid-continent region, boast a pristine view of nature. |
