The Uvalde National Fish hatchery currently houses six species on station. All species with the exception of the channel catfish are federally listed as endangered or threatened due to competition with exotic species and loss of habitat (caused by a reduction in natural water flows). Facilities such as the Uvalde NFH promote recovery of the species and ensure their continued existence.
