Can download for offline viewing
At first there did not appear to be any method to download for offline viewing. In fact, there is, but only on a section by section or article by article basis. A download of the entire daily edition happened automatically on my iPad. Not having it here, and requiring several clicks to get the download of articles or sections done is a big drawback. Also, the gesture controls are more limited than on the iPad. The download task is hidden in the tool bar - three dots in the lower right hand corner, and should be more prominent.
MoreQuality content delivered effortlessly
I've been a die-hard fan of the print edition of WSJ for years. But this app is so good that I now prefer it over the physical paper. Clean, simple design makes articles easy to find. The interface is organized very well. The ability to read articles offline is my favorite feature. My one request is to have the ability to download an entire edition of the paper to read offline later. And full functionality to share article content with Pocket and it's partners (ex. "Poki"). Otherwise, the app is sublime. Great work!
MoreNot a real app
I recently began making the transition from apple to Microsoft because of the surface and the possibility of having a pc and tablet all in one. However, the "app" is really just a shortcut and far inferior to the IPad version. The main issue being you need a connection to access it. Why can't it be made to perform as the IOS version and download today's edition for viewing on flights etch where you don't have WiFi? Otherwise it's useless as a tablet. At this point, I am still carrying the IPad for this very reason. Otherwise the surface is great, but until Microsoft get's a better app store in general, you really just have a pc.
MoreNo Live Tile
Fix the Live Tile so it updates ALOT more frequently. As of right now, I'm not even sure if the Live Tile works at all. My other News Media Apps are flipping Breaking News and Pictures all the time, this one just sits there. If this app wants to compete with others then the devs need to try harder.
MoreLogin Issue is OS Related Not App Related
With latest Fast Ring build (14328) there is a problem with logging into the mobile app, although the desktop app works fine. This is an OS issue not an app issue. The dev is looking into a fix, but you may need to wait for the next Fast Ring build. That's the nature sometimes of working with test builds. Regarding the app itself, it's pretty fantastic. Very well designed, flows well, great type/font, and is in keeping with the WSJ brand and quality. I waited a long time for the WSJ to come out with a quality Windows mobile app, and this first cut with Windows 10 is much, much better than the first iteration of most other branded apps. Kudos to the dev!
MoreWhy not Tablet friendly?
This still doesn't download the content for offline viewing! It also doesn't have any gestures based controls!!! On my iPad, I can swipe left, right, up, down to go from article to article, back, section to section, etc. There is NO ability to do this with the current version which makes NO sense! WSJ - Please take the time to make a decent app that is at least half as good as its iOS counterpart!
MoreClean, fast, intuitive.
I enjoy using this app to consume WSJ content! It's very easy to navigate, it's crisp and clean and the app doesn't get in the way of the content. Well done!
MoreImproved, but what about automatic downloading
I found this improved version of the WSJ app to be better. I am unclear about how to download articles for offline viewing. I gather it isn't possible to automatically download articles, but I really don't understand why. For example, I fiddled around with the kindle paperwhite WSJ subscription and there you can download the entire paper and aren't reliant on a hinky internet connection.
MoreGreatly Improved
Although the Journal is a must have app, I only sparsely use the Windows version until now. The current update contains the "today's paper" edition that is sorely needed, in addition to the "latest news" edition. The iPad & Android versions actually feel dated compared to the great layout of this one. I have a main complaint: there is no option to auto-download via Wi-Fi in the Windows version. WSJ apparently assumes all Windows users are desktop users.
MoreAnnoying
Keeps asking me to sign in before I can read articles. And the font used in the app for article text is hard to read.

Rob, If an article has the 'key' icon beside it that means it's a paid-subscriber-only article so you'll need to have a paid subscription account in order to access it. However, we do publish lots of free content every day so hopefully you find those valuable enough that you'd like to subscribe to the rest of the paper! Thanks!
