Majors

Variety. Challenge. Excellence. With more than 90 undergraduate majors across 11 colleges, we have you covered.

Pick one, pick two or even create your own major through our Individual Studies Program. Explore a new interest with a minor or certificate program, or take part in one of our pre-professional programs.

Need some time to consider your options? No problem. We offer Letters & Sciences, which provides advising for students who haven’t decided their major or are preparing for one of our Limited Enrollment Programs.

Our pre-professional programs are considered advising programs, not undergraduate majors, and they prepare students for postgraduate studies in pre-law, pre-veterinary medicine, and several health-related fields. On the admissions application, be sure to indicate your interest in a pre-professional program along with your choice of major.

When you apply to Maryland, your preferred major is not considered in whether or not you are admissible to Maryland. Admitted students who selected a Limited Enrollment Program (LEP) as their major are then reviewed by the specific program to determine admission to that major. While the majority of students are admitted to their preferred major, some LEP applicants may not be. Students who are admitted to Maryland but not their preferred LEP major are placed in Letters & Sciences, where they will work with an advisor to meet the gateway requirements to earn admission to that major. Admitted students who did not select an LEP major are admitted directly to the major indicated on their application.
