CRC Mission
The Chesapeake Research Consortium (CRC) encourages scientific and technical activities in the tidal Chesapeake Bay, its drainage basin, and adjoining airshed, as well as adjacent coastal waters of the Middle Atlantic Bight. Recognizing that processes acting in Earth systems far from the Bay also impact its processes and resources, CRC also assists project development in areas far beyond the traditional Bay boundaries.
CRC’s primary roles are to assemble multi-disciplinary scientific expertise in innovative research initiatives, to facilitate research and education initiatives throughout the region and, from these activities, to inform the management community and foster improved science-based management across the region and throughout the world.

CRC works to assemble teams of scientists, engineers, managers, and public-policy specialists to design and undertake multi-disciplinary projects related to the protection and restoration of Chesapeake Bay, the watershed, and surrounding lands and air

CRC identifies individuals or institutions to assist regional science or management initiatives, projects, or reviews related to the Chesapeake Bay, the watershed, and its surrounding lands and air.

CRC provides access to scientists, laboratories, experienced technicians, computer capabilities, and research vessels on a scale sufficiently large to address complex Bay or system-wide problems.

CRC works with state, federal, and private agencies and institutions in joint approaches to solving specific problems of local, regional, national, and international concern.

CRC assists management agencies by producing new insights, assessing knowledge, conducting workshops, forums, conferences, symposia, and reviews and contributing to the education of new environmental stewards and scientists.
