In our most vulnerable moment, Greenpoint Animal Hospital was there for us. Our cat Pandora had lived a long happy healthy life with us, but after 16.5 years my wife & I had to make the agonizing decision to put her down. Of course this was on a Sunday, when our regular Vet was not around and I had to find a vet that was close to us.

I can't illustrate enough how sweet & thoughtful everybody was when we arrived with our fur-baby Pandora. Dr. Tan spoke to us softly with care during our visit to the Vet, which we deeply dreaded this day would come. She explained the euthanasia process  clearly to us and was so nice when discussing our options. It was our most vulnerable moment when we had no where to turn, and Greenpoint Hospital & Dr. Tan  stepped up to assist us when we needed help.

They also gave us a paw print to help remember our baby. The team came across with such care and empathy. This is who you want taking care of your pets. I would recommend this place.

Hug your pets and give them an extra treat,

We will always love you Pandora.

Tons of people in the neighborhood have told me to check out other vets, but I have always had such great experiences here with both my dog and cat.
Unfortunately I had to put down my 16 year old cat who I had for almost half of my life. I got him when I was 17- but he had recently been diagnosed with leukemia. He went downhill very fast and I had to take him in- it was a very, very hard day.
I cannot express the kindness and comfort and patience, and just general caring attitude I experienced that day. Everyone there was so great.
I came home yesterday to a card and a little gift that made me cry and melted my heart all at once. Even if I hadn't had nothing but good experiences before, I would forever be their customer after this. They are an amazing group of people and genuinely care about their clients, and their clients' humans.

This is a long overdue review, but Greenpoint Veterinary Hospital and the entire staff have been nothing short of amazing. They were extremely kind, informative, and caring when my cat had a very serious urinary blockage. Without them, he would not be alive today. GPVH has also been so great the few times I've had to take my dog in for minor issues. They always give me honest and helpful information. All of the doctors really take their time explaining things thoroughly and make sure you're making the most informed decisions about your pets. Reception is so organized and professional - they always respond ASAP via e-mail & phone which is such a breath of fresh air. I am so grateful to have this place close by and I know that my animals will always be in great hands. Plus, I love that they always have fresh baked cookies and coffee for the humans!

I love this place just wish they weren't so expensive.  Had to switch vets because along with the neighborhood, they priced me out! The vets here are great, had my dog spayed and had her teeth cleaned, everything was good. But that was a few years ago, they've gotten pricey since. The estimate they gave me for her new teeth cleaning was $1500-$2600 after they said her teeth were in good shape. So we switched back to Northside where the prices are slightly better. Northside is great too FYI just wasn't within walking distance.
If you can afford to pay more I say go for it, if you're on a budget look elsewhere.

Hmm .. Dr Tan is quiet and calm and friendly and really listened to my concerns! She talked a lot about doing diagnostics and pursuing testing that definitely are not anything I would consider for my pet at this time. I was also very concerned when the receptionist doled out medical advise that very much contradicted what had been discussed in the consultation. Multiple phone calls followed to apologize for the mess up. Ugh! Especially after having spent several hundred dollars just for a conversation on how to be a good pet owner. Thanks, No thanks.
Also, I heard the owner of the practice lives abroad. Not sure how that works?!

There is no price you can put on your pet's health and this place milks that thought.

They push every test on you and are after your money. Remember this place is a business. If things are urgent and you have the time, I would highly recommend shopping different vets. If you're just getting tests done, definitely go somewhere else. While they got the job done, I left this vet with a little knock in the gut for how much I paid.

I love this clinic. I truly do. Everyone here, from the doctors to the receptionists, are just the kindest, most helpful, and professional staff. I've been taking my dog Ash here since he was 10 weeks old, and thanks in no small part due to their care and mentorship, he's grown into a beautiful and healthy adult. Prices, too, I find very reasonable (rap compared to the prices my Williamsburg dog pals often pay at their vets). Can't recommend highly enough!

Based on the reviews I decided to bring my new pup here. I have to say, I have used vets all around Williamsburg/Greenpoint and this by far has been my favorite. Yes, fees are somewhat high (comparable to Williamsburg Vet - who incidently misdiagnosed a former dog of mine which ultimately died) but so are most locations. Animal care is costly and how are they going to stay in business if they don't charge us? If its a good place then its worth the investment for your furry friend. There is also pet insurance to re-coop some of the costs too. Dr. Zelman was kind, thorough and not once did I feel like she was pushing things on me to make money. The vet techs were also great and one gave me the breakdown of all things I wanted done prior to even moving forward.

All in all, my experience was just what I had hoped for. After my terrible experience with Williamsburg vet, I am sooooo happy I came her. For having a healthy and happy puppy is very important to me.

What a great experience!! Dr. Vinitsky is just amazing. Super thorough and answered all of my questions. Very interested in my pet's well being and not all about doing unnecessary test. Love  his place. Thanks for a great experience guys!!

I'm not happy leaving negative reviews but my last experience with Greenpoint vet was so bad I have to let people know. This place is all about $$. Last year my 16 year old cat had what seemed like a stroke. Brought her here because it was a few blocks from my house and my friend recommended them. $150 just to walk through the door. Ok i was desperate so I agreed when all was said and done I ended up paying almost $500 for them to tell me she was too weak to go through testing. Fluid under the skin, pain meds cost me a fortune. Fine it's my baby I'll pay. 2 weeks later she's sick again took her back, Dr. Tan told me to take her home and make her comfortable she wasn't going to last much longer and it wasn't worth the $$ to put her though testing that would traumatize her. I fully understood that and appreciated her honesty but that still cost me almost $300. Fast forward a year later I kept her alive by using a kidney medicine that had her eating and pooping, and she was ok for a while but In march she went blind. Last week started having bad seizures and by Sunday I knew I had to put her down. Called Greenpoint vet was told $92 for an exam and $150 to put her down. Didn't make an appt but came in an hour later with my baby wrapped in a blanket clearly they could see she was ready to go, receptionist told me they had no available appts even though the place was empty, and asked if it could wait??!! She seen my cat completely out of it, mind you they have her records so they knew she was sick. Now it was $150 for an emergency exam, WTF are u examining her for you could see she was dying, another $150 to put her down plus cremation fees. My husband asked why it was so much more and she had an attitude stating "it's an emergency so it's $150. Started rattling off other fees so I walked out I was so disgusted that I couldn't see my baby having her last moments there. The place was empty and she was suffering there's no reason they should have put her through an exam and the best part is the vet didn't even come out to talk to me!! The greed outweighed the concern they showed for my cat in the past I ended up in queens at an amazing place that made my baby's last moments very peaceful.

This place is highly recommended. We have been going here for the last two years with our Beagle (adopted from Badass). They spotted lymphoma cancer early enough for us to treat it and Brooke Britton was absolutely amazing in helping us in our fight with the pet insurance to cover the costs. They regularly follow up on our dog's health, are friendly, professional and relatively affordable. They work with Blue Pearl Vet in Brooklyn and Manhattan, who did the chemo therapy for our dog. Blue Pearl is excellent but in my view too expensive.

I can fully recommend Greenpoint Veterinary and will continue to go there with our Beagle and any future animals we might adopt.

This is a long overdue rave for the team that works at Greenpoint vet.  I moved to the neighborhood about three years ago and took my elderly, rescue dog Kima there for all of her medical needs.    Everyone who works there was always kind a patient with Kima, who had lots of quirks and could sometimes be a bit of a handful at her check ups.  They were wonderful with giving me pricing options and discussing all services with me.

They surpassed all of my expectations of a vet's role this summer when Kima was terminally sick.  It was some bad timing for me as I was going away, but Dr. Tan helped me through it and talked about options.   When my sweet girl was put down this summer (my mom was caring for her at the time so it was with another vet) but I let the team know and they were so incredibly kind.  They even sent me a card, which blew me away.

I know that I will continue to bringing my pets here when the time comes.

The doctors and receptionists here are great and the facilities are clean.  I've taken my dog to a few vets now and this is the only place where he's not terrified.

My only complaint is that it is expensive here, but perhaps that's because I used to go to a vet in Queens.  The prices here are almost double what I paid in Queens.

However, this is where I live now and my dog loves them.  For a check up now and then, it's a cost I'm willing to spend.

I'm really sad about my experience with this animal hospital.

-really over priced. Even more so than our usual vet in West Hollywood, CA which had the nicest cleanest facilities I've ever seen.
-they seemed somewhat cold towards my dog which made me uncomfortable.
-the dr said I my dog had no record of a feces sample and tried to get me to pay for one. I declined, so they forces one out of my dog to persuade me to do it. After when I looked at the records that I had given to this office it clearly states that he had one 6 months earlier and wasn't due again for another 6 months!
-I noticed that the facilities didn't look very well kept or clean. Coincidently, the next day my dog woke up with a awful eye infection.

I came in because of the high Yelp rating but now I'm realizing if you sift through there are many negative ratings. I'm only leaving a review because I'm hoping to help other people who relay on Yelp pages when seeking out a new business.

    UPDATE 3 months later:

-I initially came in 3 months ago for a Lyme disease test. They asked when he was bit by a tick to told them about a week earlier. I now know for sure that we tested him too early and they should have had me come back. It was clear they just wanted to get the payments out of me right then and there. Yesterday I had him tested elsewhere and it came up positive!. I could have caught the Lyme disease in my dog before it came to him showing his current painful symptoms. He is now limping due to sore joints and is on a month of antibiotics. The vet I took him to this time (Dr Wood at All Creatures) is one of the sweetest drs I've met. I would recommend seeing her if your pet is having health issues.

I had a really good experience here! My cat was acting strange and pawing at his face.. Something I had never seen him do before. I thought maybe he had something stuck in his mouth. We didn't have an appointment so they said if I paid $155 I could come in for an emergency.. Which was fine because I didn't know what was going on. They definitely put my mind at ease. The doctor was SO knowledgable about animals and once I gave her the history about my cat.. She really informed me a lot about what could be wrong neurologically with him and what my options were... The only reason I don't want to give a full 5 stars is because of the pricing. For a full blood panel that they recommended it was almost $500 which I should do in order to get him fixed eventually which is another $300 something...

I will give two stars based on past experience to be fair, but minus three stars due to recent dealings with this place.  I use to find this Practice very helpful and nice.  Over the past few years is seems to be more about the money. Example just general blood work is now about $350.  I called for an emergency illness visit for my cat, I was told we have no appointments available for five days unless I want to just drop my cat off for the day to pay an additional $155 emergency fee ,and the vet will see your cat when they get around to it. First off I don't like leaving my pet alone all day in a vet office since she is very sensitive, second the fee is outrageous. Then they gave me some other vet numbers to call, not at all very friendly about it on the phone.  In the past if I had called  Greenpoint veterinary about a problem ,they would say to come right down since I live right down the block, those days are gone, and I will never recommend them again.  They should be ashamed with themselves for displaying a major lack of empathy when told an animal is not feeling well and an owner is concerned for the health of their pet.

Highly-professional staff and excellent care. I have taken my cat to see Greenpoint Vet twice and I always appreciate the thorough questions they ask and time they take to assess her physical and behavioral health.

They do, however, try to upsell their already expensive services by offering various levels of testing and by encouraging frequent check-ups. In some ways I appreciate that they offer me options, but I'm not a vet so it's pretty tough to know if I'm making the right decision. They did answer honestly and straightforwardly when I asked "What would go undetected if I don't do the more expensive tests?"

It feels uncomfortable to be nickel-and-diming medical care for your beloved pet, but I think you have to approach this place knowing that they'll insist on the services that are absolutely required and then try to sell you additional ones that may be less necessary.

I brought my dog here over a year ago and they were not helpful at ALL.

First, they misread her test results and only after I asked to see the copies did I notice the problem. Second, they recommended treatment that didn't help based on her health issues. In fact, it caused adverse reactions, and only after I spent hours researching online did I find out why she was getting worse instead of better. She had a few things wrong with her, so when they recommended one treatment for one problem, it created adverse affects for the other issue she had which made her get worse.

Yes, it's hard to treat a dog with more than one issue and find a proper balance to take care of everything, but careful care is needed instead of just throwing any treatment you can think of at the problem.

I am extremely disappointed in the vets here. In fact, I'm the one who felt like the real vet because I spent so much time researching on my own to try and figure out how to fix everything. In the end, it was a simple change in diet that was needed rather than all of the drugs that they were throwing at her to try and fix her digestive issues.

FYI to all pet owners out there, I really suggest you make home cooked food for your dogs rather than relying on store bought dog food that has more rice than meat and plenty of cheap corn as filler. My dog got worse once they told me to put her on a specific dog food when she was sick. After I read the ingredients I realized it had even more corn and wheat than her other dog food...and it made her WAY more sick. Their dog food just sped up the process and made it harder to fix the issue. So go natural human food people please!!!! Even when your dog is young, it's best to do it in order to avoid issues in the future.

My baby eventually passed away once the issues got worse over time (she was 16 so it was inevitable), but I'll have to keep in mind for any future dog I have that I really need to go the natural food route rather than the processed way.

Really have not been pleased with any experiences here. Beyond having a terribly rude and unfriendly person at the front desk, this place only cares about money and not about the wellness of your pets. Very overpriced, constantly trying to up-sell and overcharge you. We came for a dog checkup exam, and the dr. did not to one thing over than weigh her and look at her teeth and it was $92. We needed a health certificate to travel with her 4 weeks later and they said we had to come in for another exam (another $92) because the airline needs a certificate within 14 days. We just need a certificate within 14 days to say that she's healthy. She was examined and not due for another 6 months. They are truly not honest people and money is their priority. Go to Williamsburg Pet Clinic or anywhere else instead.

When I had to make the difficult decision to put down my 3 year old cat, Greenpoint Vet was able to make time for him, due to the progression of his illness. Their staff provided me with comfort and care, before during and after by sending along a heartfelt card that still brings me to tears along with some tokens for us to remember him by. I did not know this sort of sentiment still existed in the world today and I would recommend them to anyone. They understand how important our animals are to us and sincerely love them too.
