Virginia Tech: A Great Place to Work

A Great Place to Live

Where is Virginia Tech? Virginia Tech's main campus is located in Blacksburg, Va., nestled in the heart of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. The New River Valley offers the charm of a small town combined with the modern conveniences of a metropolitan area. The thriving community boasts a plethora of unique and chain restaurants and stores, symphonies, theatres, historical attractions, museums, a vibrant night life, sporting events, outdoor recreation activities, and a temperate climate.

The Community

Located on a plateau between the Blue Ridge and Allegheny Mountains, Blacksburg is home to about 42,000 local residents. The town is considered small by most standards, but don't let its size or location fool you.

Vibrant and engaging, Blacksburg's downtown offers more than 150 unique stores, art galleries, and eclectic restaurants. The area's wide red-brick sidewalks, Victorian street lamps, and park benches encourage foot traffic and make meeting folks easy.

Blacksburg and the surrounding communities that make up the New River Valley enjoy a wonderful pace of life, with annual festivals and events adding fun and fellowship. And for sports fans, Virginia Tech athletic teams compete at the highest collegiate level, with enthusiastic support from the Hokie Nation. A more urban option is only 45 minutes away in Roanoke.

Because of the town's award-winning services, reasonable cost of living, safety, moderate climate, and abundant leisure activities, Blacksburg is consistently ranked among the country's best places to live and has earned a reputation nationwide as a well-managed, stable, and forward-looking community.
