The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) contracted with The Scientific Consulting Group, Inc. (SCG) to convene a panel of experts to conduct an independent expert external peer review for the EPA draft report entitled TSCA Work Plan Chemical Risk Assessment for Antimony Trioxide (ATO). The panel will meet three times, which includes:
  1. A kickoff pre-meeting to review the peer review charge and the assessment overview;
  2. A day-long review meeting to discuss the reviewers' responses to the charge questions and the ATO draft assessment;
  3. A post-meeting to discuss the draft report compiling the reviewers' comments.
The public and any other interested party is invited to register to attend all three meetings as observers and to offer oral comments of 3-5 minutes at the beginning of the meetings.

The expert panel is charged with reviewing the scientific and technical merit of the draft assessment as individual scientists, without seeking to reach consensus. The panel will not be making recommendations to the EPA concerning any potential future actions or policies. Therefore, the peer review meeting will focus on issues of scientific relevance to the assessment, rather than its policy implications. The panel will have access to public comments received in the official public docket (docket ID number EPA-HQ-OPPT-2012-0724) during the assessment's public comment period, as well as oral comments made at the peer review meeting. In preparing the final assessment, EPA will consider SCG's report of the comments and recommendations from the external peer review meeting, as well as written public comments received through the official public docket. The final peer review report prepared by SCG will be made available to the public according to the Agency's peer review guidance.
