Quality Controlled Local Climatological Data (QCLCD)

Quality Controlled Local Climatological Data (QCLCD) consist of hourly, daily, and monthly summaries for approximately 1,600 U.S. locations. Daily Summary forms are not available for all stations. Data are available beginning January 1, 2005 and continue to the present. Please note, there may be a 48-hour lag in the availability of the most recent data.

Note: A new dynamically generated Local Climatological Data (LCD) product will be available through the Climate Data Online Data Tools page in 2015. This new product combines the old ULCD, QCLCD, and Edited LCD publications into one. Once the new LCD product is online, the ULCD and QCLCD systems will be taken offline and the Monthly Edited LCD will no longer be published. Historical issues of the Edited LCD Publication, as well as future Annual Editions, will continue to be available through the Image and Publications System. A sample of the new form and ASCII output is provided for your review. If you have questions or concerns, please contact NCEI Customer Support at 828-271-4800 or ncdc.orders@noaa.gov.

  • Unedited Local Climatological Data (ULCD)
The Unedited Local Climatological Data product consists of unedited hourly, daily, and monthly summaries for over 700 U.S. locations. The ULCD covers data for July 1996 to December 2004.
  • ULCD Samples
The ULCD product consists of three forms. Each of these forms is also available in comma separated values (CSV) format. Follow these links to view ULCD samples before accessing the data.
  • QCLCD ASCII Files
QCLCD ASCII, or plain text, data files provide monthly summaries of observations for all stations. Files between 2005 and 2007 may not match the same information presented in the QCLCD web form, and the Hourly Wind Speed is represented in knots (kts) rather than miles per hour (mph) for this period. The QCLCD ASCII data are available as compressed zip files. To download them, right click on the filename and select Save As. Then decompress the files using WinZip (Microsoft Windows/NT environment) or standard UNIX gunzip/tar.
