Naval Oceanographic Office Global Navy Coastal Ocean Model (NCOM)

NCOM Region

The Navy Coastal Ocean Model, global version (Global NCOM) was run by the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO) as the Navy’s operational global ocean-prediction system prior to its replacement by the Global HYCOM system in 2013. The Naval Research Laboratory developed NCOM based on the Princeton Ocean Model with time invariant hybrid (sigma over Z) vertical coordinates. For distribution, NAVOCEANO interpolated the output onto a regular latitude-longitude grid in the horizontal and a series of standard depths in the vertical, and parsed the global domain into 13 regions. This site provides access to three-dimensional data from regions around the United States and its territorial waters as well as global data for the surface layer.

See the Navy's NCOM Publications web page for additional information on NCOM. Note that this is a static dataset as Global NCOM is no longer being operated.
