The NASA Specialized Center of Research and Training in Gravitational Biology (NSCORT) in Plant Gravitational Biology and Genomics was established in 1996. Scientists from North Carolina State University and Wake Forest University conduct research on "An Integrated Molecular, Cellular, and Physiological Approach to Plant Gravitational Biology." Members of the group also are actively involved in a dynamic education and outreach program for learners of all ages.

The NSCORT's overall goals are to:

  • Advance the basic understanding of plant gravitational biology using an integrated molecular, biochemical, and physiological approach.

  • Train students to become future leaders in gravitational and space biology research and education.

  • Communicate knowledge and enthusiasm for space biology via a college-level course, outreach to K-16 educators and students, and participation in community events.
