The land of 10,000-plus lakes is the focus of Water Policy in Minnesota, one in a series of international books on water policy published by London-based Resources for the Future (RFF) Press. University of Minnesota Professor of Applied Economics K. William Easter and Professor of Fisheries, Wildlife and Conservation Biology Jim Perry were recruited by RFF Press to edit the book, which details Minnesota's approach to water management—and ranges in topic from the state's approach to measuring impaired waters to the historic passage of the Clean Water Legacy Act. Water Resources Center co-directors Deborah Swackhamer and Faye Sleeper contributed to the book, as did more than 50 other Minnesota experts. Lake Minnetonka’s 26 bays and 125 miles of shoreline make it a desirable destination for sportsmen, boaters and well-heeled homeowners. Its high level of use and complex eco-system also make it a perfect subject for water quality researchers.
