Young Peacebuilders

There are many ways to be a peacebuilder, and young people all over the world have demonstrated this as peacebuilders in their own communities.

What do you think about the role of youth in building peace and resolving conflict in their communities: how are they suited for resolving conflict, or what challenges might they face? Can you think of an example of a young peacebuilder that you know? Do you have questions about how you can build peace as a young person? This is the place to discuss young people and peacebuilding!

I think one of the ways youth are suited for resolving conflict is coming to problems and conflicts with a blank slate that allows for creativity. Problem-solving and conflict resolution definitely require established skills, but creativity is also important, and young people are usually very, very creative. This creativity, if used correctly to address problems, can help resolve problems that drive conflicts.

I wonder what other skills youth have that help them as peacebuilders. Thoughts?

I think the pure and innocent hearts of our youth make them ideal for peace building. Their unshakable belief in the goodness of people makes them so well suited for building peace because they tend to address situations with humble hearts and open minds.

Also, young people’s eagerness and enthusiasm about knowledge gives them a desire to know more about everything, and in this case, how to effectively resolve conflict and promote peace.

Young people are absolutely essential to the work of peacebuilding. The majority of the world's population today is under the age of 30, and just as youth are key players in fomenting violence, they have vast potential to generate peace. Young people are motivated, talented, energetic. They have a desire to be part of making a change in the world, of being involved in something bigger than themselves. This is one of the reasons young people join extremist groups - they are frustrated with the status quo and want to make an impact. Harnessing that energy and talent in the service of peace is powerful. In my years working with youth, I've seen them overcome extreme odds and lead, inspire, and make extraordinary impact.

"For every end, there is a new beginning" The heart of the matter is to bridge the gap. The new without the old is self destructive. The converse is true for the old without the new.

Every human being comes to exist to accomplish a mission of life. Without relaying the torch of peace for my children of the world, I have not yet accomplished my mission.

So far, I have passed the litmus test of life time learning, trained in the art of conflict resolution and educated in the science of peace. Now is my time to give than to receive b 4 it is too late.

Let us build the foundation of peace to bridge the generational gap.

Together, we can make a difference.

In peace!!
