To retrieve current heat units from the blueberry heat model, choose a state and corresponding weather station, then select a start year, start month, and start day.
This project is being done in collaboration with Bill Cline and Benny Bloodworth in the NCSU Department of Plant Pathology, and the North Carolina Agricultural Research Service (NCARS).
* Model accumulates 1 heat unit when temperature is above 65° F, 0.5 units between 55° and 65° F, 0 units between 45° and 55° F, and -0.5 units below 45° F. The heat model begins when there is 25% corolla drop observed, and ends when 25% of fruit on the same bushes is ripe.
Model developed by Dr. Mike Mainland, Professor Emeritus, NCSU Department of Horticultural Science.
