Funding Available for Coastal Fish Habitat Conservation

Pre-proposals due June 3, 2013

NOAA and partners announce the availability of up to $1.7 million to support native fish habitat conservation projects through the Bring Back the Natives/More Fish program. We are seeking proposals for projects that will protect, restore, and enhance the habitats of native fish species of special concern.

Among the native fish species of special concern are:

• Russian River (CA) Coho salmon
• Native eastern brook trout and associated native aquatic species (Chesapeake watershed  has priority)
• Klamath  Basin Coho salmon
• Native Atlantic coast estuarine-dependent or migratory species (alewife, blueback herring, Atlantic and shortnose sturgeon, American eel, and American shad)
• Wild Pacific salmon in Alaska, Washington, and Oregon

Because the leading factors in native fish species decline are habitat alteration, lack of adequate water flows, and invasive species, projects that address these threats—as well as projects that protect coastal and marine habitats—are of particular interest.
