The average date of the first frost ranges from mid-September in northern areas to early November in coastal areas.
On average, most of the Northeast has its first frost by October 20th. This year, there are still many areas of the region that have yet to see a minimum temperature of 32 degrees or less. It won’t be long before cold air infiltrates the Northeast, in fact, the current Climate Prediction Center 6-10 day temperature outlook indicates an increased probability of below normal temperatures in the southern half of the region for the end of October.
