Download Unidata Software

Unidata develops, maintains, and supports a variety of software packages. Some of these packages are developed at the Unidata Program Center (UPC), while others originated externally, but are modified, maintained, and supported at the UPC. Software provided by Unidata is available at no charge, but there are conditions on accessing or obtaining support for some packages.

Display and Analysis

AWIPS2
AWIPS II is a weather forecasting, display and analysis package being developed by the National Weather Service and Raytheon.

GEMPAK
GEMPAK is an analysis, display, and product generation package for meteorological data. It is used at National Centers for producing operational forecast and analysis products.

Integrated Data Viewer (IDV)
Developed using Java, VisAD and other component libraries, the IDV is a meteorologically oriented, platform-independent application for visualization and analysis.

McIDAS
McIDAS is a meteorologically oriented analysis and display package, that emphasizes comprehensive capabilities for image processing of data from satellite-borne sensor systems, and that supports ADDE client/server access to remote data.

Data Access and Management

Local Data Manager (LDM)
The LDM is Unix software for capturing, disseminating, and organizing data in near-real time; and includes client and server software for the IDD system.

LDM-McIDAS Decoders
LDM-McIDAS Decoders are used to decode image products into McIDAS- and GEMPAK-readable formats, and wind profiler and lightning data into McIDAS-readable formats.

NetCDF and NetCDF Java
netCDF is used for storing and retrieving scientific data in self-describing, platform-independent datasets; enhanced by udunits, a library for handling and converting units of measure.

THREDDS Data Server
The THREDDS Data Server is a web server that provides metadata and data access for scientific datasets.

UDUNITS
UDUNITS supports conversion of unit specifications between formatted and binary forms, arithmetic manipulation of unit specifications, and conversion of values between compatible scales of measurement.

Deprecated Software

GARP
GARP (GEMPAK Analysis and Rendering Program) is an X-Windows/Motif software application originally developed by the UCAR Cooperative Program for Operational Meteorology, Education and Training (COMET), for the display and analysis of meteorological data sets. Supported data sets include model data, satellite imagery in NOAAPort GINI format or MCIDAS area file format, NIDS and Nowrad radar data, surface data and upper air data. GARP was previously maintained by the Unidata Program Center at UCAR.

NetCDF Decoders
The perl surface/upperair data decoders convert textual bulletins into netCDF formatted files.

NetCDF Perl
The netCDF Perl package is a perl extension module for scientific data access via the netCDF API.
