Coral Reef Conservation Grant Program

The NOAA Coral Reef Conservation Program provides funds through grants or cooperative agreements for coral reef conservation activities within U.S. state and territorial waters, the Freely Associated States, and in selected international regions as authorized by the Coral Reef Conservation Act of 2000. The grant program is divided into six categories:
- State and Territory Management Grants
- State and Territory Coral Reef Ecosystem Monitoring Grants
- Coral Reef Ecosystem Research Grants
- General Coral Reef Conservation Grants
- Projects to Improve or Amend Coral Reef Fishery Management Plans
- International Coral Reef Conservation
NOAA Fisheries administers the General Coral Reef Conservation Program, which provides matching grants to non-government organizations, institutions of higher education, businesses, and resource agencies within the Freely Associated States. NOAA Fisheries also administers the Projects to Improve or Amend Coral Reef Fishery Management Plans, which provides funding to U.S. Regional Fishery Management Councils that have coral reef resources within their jurisdictions. To be considered for funding, coral reef conservation projects must be consistent with the goals of the National Action Plan to Conserve Coral Reefs (pdf - 212kb).

Consideration of these new goals and objectives by applicants is strongly encouraged. Preference in funding determinations will be given to those proposals that clearly meet the stated goals and objectives.
