The NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office maintains and operates a small group of research vessels (abbreviated as R/V) to meet scientific needs associated with Bay protection and restoration efforts and living resource management.

The R/V Bay Commitment provides support for education, scientific, and management programs at the Office.

The R/V Potawaugh provides a safe and capable platform for research in the Chesapeake Bay and coastal waters. |

The R/V Allision is used to maintain the network of Chesapeake Bay Interpretive Buoys (CBIBS) "smart buoys" around the Bay. Its rigid hull, inflatable boat (RHIB) design is ideal for coming alongside buoys to service their sensors and other hardware.

The R/V Mugil is a specialized platform for biological sampling. Arranged with engine forward, the Mugil is specifically designed for nearshore deployment of seines and other net sampling gear.

The R/V Jonboat is the NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office's 16' ultra-shallow platform used to provide nearshore support for all field endeavors.
