Severn River, MD, Alternative Substrate Project Acoustic Surveys

High-resolution bathymetric and acoustic backscatter data were collected prior to construction of artificial oyster reefs by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Severn River. Once construction is complete and once juvenile oysters have been planted on the reefs, reef sites will be resurveyed sequentially. Bathymetric difference surfaces will be used to evaluate reef morphology and to compare the utility of different reef materials. This series of surveys will serve as a spatial baseline for monitoring the production of oysters from the project and will set a benchmark on which other restoration projects can be evaluated.
