Jono Bacon is a leading community manager, speaker, and author. He is Director of Community at GitHub and previously led community at Canonical and XPRIZE. Bacon is a prominent author and speaker on community management and best practice, and wrote the best-selling The Art of Community (O’Reilly), is the founder of the primary annual conference for community managers and leaders, the Community Leadership Summit, founder of the Community Leadership Forum, and is a regular keynote speaker at events about community management, leadership, and best practice. Stuart Bailey is a technologist and entrepreneur who has been innovating at the intersection of distributed software systems and networking for 19 years. As the founder and CTO of Infoblox, Stuart is focused on enabling the hardware-centric networking industry to gracefully transition and expand into a software-centric market, helping organizations cope with rapid increases in network complexity. Prior to founding Infoblox, Stuart worked with Dr. Robert Grossman in the University of Chicago (UIC) Laboratory for Advanced Computing. During his time there, Stuart led teams that developed advanced distributed data artchitecures and participated in building the National Scalable Cluster Project and the National Center for Data Mining.

David H. Langstaff is a business and community leader with extensive experience as Chief Executive Officer and Director of advanced technology and professional services companies. He served as President and CEO, and previously as Chairman of the Board of TASC, Inc.; Founder, President & CEO and Director of Veridian Corporation, which he took public in 2002; and CEO and Co-Chairman of Olive Group. David is a member of the Defense Business Board, a director of The Hitachi Foundation, a trustee of The Committee for Economic Development, an Executive Fellow for the Center for Higher Ambition Leadership, and a senior moderator of leadership seminars for the Aspen Institute and chair of its Business and Society Program Advisory Board. He currently serves as Chairman of Monitor 360, a pioneer in the field of Narrative Analytics.

Ben Lorica is the Chief Data Scientist of O'Reilly Media, Inc. and Program Director of Strata+Hadoop World. He has applied Business Intelligence, Data Mining, Machine Learning and Statistical Analysis in a variety of settings including Direct Marketing, Consumer and Market Research, Targeted Advertising, Text Mining, and Financial Engineering. His background includes stints with an investment management company, internet startups, and financial services. Ben is an advisor to exciting startups and organizations like Databricks, Tacyhon Nexus, SparkBeyond, ClearCutAnalytics, Anodot, Graphistry, the ASI, Yakit, and The Center for Data Intensive Science (University of Chicago). He also hosts The O’Reilly Data Show podcast.

Joe Mambretti is Director of the International Center for Advanced Internet Research at Northwestern University, which is developing digital communications for the 21st Century. The Center, which was created in partnership with a number of major high tech corporations (www.icair.org), designs and implements large scale services and infrastructure for data intensive applications (metro, regional, national, and global). He is also Director of the Metropolitan Research and Education Network (MREN), an advanced high-performance network interlinking organization providing services in seven upper-Midwest states, and Director of the StarLight International/National Communications Exchange Facility in Chicago.

Art (Arthur L.) Money was the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Command, Control, Communications and Intelligence (ASD C3I) (1999-2001). Prior to his Senate confirmation as the ASD C3I, Mr. Money served as the Senior Civilian Official, Office of the ASD C3I; the Department of Defense (DOD) Chief Information Officer (CIO); Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Research, Development and Acquisition (also a Senate confirmed position); and as CIO of the Air Force. Prior to his USG duties, Art was President of ESL Inc. and Vice President and Deputy General Manager for the TRW Avionics and Surveillance Group. Mr. Money has more than 50 years of management and engineering experience with the defense electronics industry and intelligence community.

Alan Paller founded SANS, a college and professional cybersecurity training school that has trained more than 165,000 cybersecurity technologists in 72 countries. He has testified before the US Senate and House and was an initial member of the President’s National Infrastructure Assurance Council. He was chosen by OMB and the Federal CIO Council as the 2005 Azimuth Award winner, a lifetime achievement award recognizing outstanding service of a single, non-government person to improving federal IT. He serves on the NASA Advisory Council, chaired the DHS Advisory Committee’s 2012 Task Force on Cyber Skills and headed a Task Force on Best Practices in Cybersecurity for the FCC.

Chris Perry is President, Global Sales, Marketing and Client Solutions at Broadridge Financial Solutions (NYSE:BR). Chris has more than 25 years of experience in banking, brokerage and financial information services. He was at Thomson Reuters for more than 14 years, most recently as the Global Managing Director of Risk for the Financial & Risk division. Earlier in his career, Chris worked in institutional trading and retail brokerage. In addition to the OCC, his non-profit service includes: Secretary of the Board of Directors of The Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Jersey, a board member of America SCORES, and serving on the Board of Directors for NPower. He is also Deputy Chairman and President of British American Business, a membership organization that enables trans-Atlantic commerce.

Bob Rose is the Founder and President of Robert N. Rose Consulting, LLC, which leverages a deep network of senior level government and private sector relationships to add value to organizations. Bob serves as Senior Advisor to the Chairman and is a member of their Board of Advisors of Securonix, the leading provider of a security intelligence platform for monitoring security events. Bob served as Senior Advisor to the Chairman of Bridgewater Associates. Bob serves on federal government advisory boards including the U.S. DHS Advisory Council (HSAC), the U.S. Department of State International Security Advisory Board, and the NSA Cyber Awareness and Response Panel. Additional board service includes The Chertoff Group, CrowdStrike Services, and the George Washington University Center for Cyber and Homeland Security.

Rick Stevens has been a professor at the University of Chicago and since 2004 Associate Laboratory Director at Argonne National Laboratory. He is internationally known for work in high-performance computing, collaboration and visualization technology, and for building computational tools and web infrastructures to support large-scale genome and metagenome analysis for basic science and infectious disease research. He co-leads the DOE national laboratory group that has been developing the national initiative for Exascale computing. Rick is principle investigator for the NIH/NIAID supported PATRIC bioinformatics resource center which is developing comparative analysis tools for infectious disease research and serves a large user community. He is also Co-PI for the DOE/SC supported Systems Biology Knowledgebase project (KBase).

Deborah F. Aghib has 21 years executive experience in business development and strategy in the biopharmaceutical and multidisciplinary technology industries, both in the US and in Europe, with previous 15 years experience in academic research. She is currently the VP, Business Development and Strategy for Sanipedia, a European biotech specialized in microfluidics applications for the biomedical field. Previously she was the Chief Business Officer of Stellar Biotechnologies where she was responsible for its business development strategy and implementation. She serves on the Advisory Board of NeuroZone.

Doug MacDonald is a retired Accenture LLP Managing Director where he primarily served the Life Sciences practice over his 27 year career. He is experienced with leading the design and implementation of complex technology solutions to both enable industry best practices for internal business operations and deliver innovative customer and patient facing healthcare applications. He has focused on Connected Health solutions that integrate remote monitoring capabilities with cloud computing infrastructure to bring critical improvements to the quality of care for medical device patients. Doug is currently engaged as a volunteer to the University of Chicago’s Center for Data Intensive Science and supports the Genomic Data Commons software development effort.

Mary Napier is in the Cancer Genetics Team at Agilent Technologies where she manages products that range from arrays to NGS panels for Cancer. Within her role she manages collaborations worldwide. She received her MBA from the University of Chicago in finance and entrepreneurship. Directly out of business school Mary worked at a Private Equity Fund of Funds as an assistant portfolio manager. The portfolio was close to $100M of indirect and direct investments across a broad range of industries. Her current board positions include: Berkeley Biolabs and she is a mentor at the IndieBio incubator in San Francisco. Previously she held a board position for six years at SFMoMA’s contemporary art group: SECA.

Robert Grossman (OCC Founder and Director) is the Chief Research Informatics Officer (CRIO), the Director of the Center for Data Intensive Science and a Professor in the Division of Biological Sciences at the University of Chicago. He is also a Core Faculty and Senior Fellow at the Institute for Genomics and Systems Biology (IGSB) and the Computation Institute. Dr. Grossman’s research group focuses on big data, data science, bioinformatics, cloud computing and related areas. Dr. Grossman is also the Founder and Chief Data Scientist of Open Data Group. Open Data Group has provided analytic services so that companies can build predictive models over big data since 2002.

Walt Wells (Director of Operations) has been helping the OCC accelerate the pace of innovation and discovery since 2012. Walt also manages the Data Mining Group (DMG), an independent, vendor led not-for-profit consortium that develops standards in predictive analytics like the Predictive Modeling Markup Language (PMML) and the Portable Format for Analytics (PFA). Walt has over 10 years of experience helping non-profits martial their resources to serve their communities more effectively. His focus is on utilizing data science for social good.
