2012-2013 student interns Miles Hunt and Maggie Loughlin Each year, the State Climate Office hosts students from Centennial Campus Magnet Middle School (CCMMS) in an internship program extending from mid-fall through early spring of the following year. This program is designed to introduce the students to the scientific process, as well as to the different aspects of North Carolina's climate through data analysis and research.

Students divide into 2-person "teams" or work individually, and are required to propose a hypothesis with respect to a weather- or climate-related phenomenon of interest, retrieve and analyze climate information needed to research their hypothesis, and create a webpage or presentation to display their findings. Beginning in the 2012-2013 academic year, students also worked on weekly lab activities that covered basic weather and climate concepts, instrumentation and data measurement, and meteorology careers.
