Whether an agent of change, or disturbance, is an invasive insect or plant, a wildfire, pollution, timber harvest or development, understanding how it changes forests over time is critical to managing forests for sustained benefits.

Research by NRS scientists and their partners explores a wide range of disturbance factors and is contributing to the development of control or mitigation methods that are used on National Forests as well as on the mosaic of private and public forest land found in the Northeast and Midwest.
