Greetings, new members -

A dear friend's service dog is very ill. I lost a service dog and still raw from it. Now my eldest working dog is fragile, old, constantly fighting illnness.
I belong to other animal rights groups, but I would like to dialogue with others who are active in this needed worrrk.

It was hard watching this video and empathizing with the Soon to be Killed dogs. Some were desperate to be homed. What was the purpose of this video? To make one fall in love only to hear the man say "too bad" and point out injury that would make them unfit. If that was the point that only 1 out of 100 would be adopted and we can make the difference with spay n neuter, adopting when we really can. OKAY got it, just was wrong narrator with the happy voice, its no big deal. Perhaps that was the only way for him to show the reality of discarded, no longer wanted dogs and why we must spay and neuter. In a world where human babies and children die of hunger, neglect and no loving touch..... I can go on

Tim and I both have had varying experiences at the Tobacco Bowl. He smokes and it was the only place one could get a smoke and drink good coffee and Italian sodas. Other patrons were not always great conversationalists but you fit it. No moochers though everyone had to buy a drink. My experience, well I have friends who smoke and from time to time I could pop in there and meet them. I also came in to play a little chess, read the paper, chat with people I had not seen in a while and enjoy an Italian Soda. There were times I wanted a little darker atmosphere but did not want to be hit on as I sat and drew or sat and wrote while enjoying a robust drink of caffeine or not... The owner of this business has always provided opportunities for those with difficulty accessing employment. He actually allowed some folks with invisible disabilities an opportunity to run a micro business. Lots of people in the community probably have little idea how many charitable activities Tommy, the owner (I don't know if there was another one) made possible. I swing my hair in his honor and I believe it is a shame and a torment to drive a business out because it allows smoking. Iowa City is all about diversity. No, Iowa City is all about the dollar.-----I loved purchasing your cigar boxes.
