Offices of CIA

Who We Are

To meet its mission, the CIA OIG is organized into three operational offices:

The Office of Audits is composed of professionally trained auditors who undertake performance and financial audits of CIA programs and activities in accordance with generally accepted government auditing standards:

  • Performance audits review issues of efficiency and effectiveness, as well as compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Financial audits review the integrity of financial transactions and statements and assess the adherence to generally accepted government accounting standards.

The Office of Inspections is composed of senior officers with experience from across the Agency, approximately half of whom are on a rotational assignment to OIG. The staff conducts two broad types of inspections:

  • Component inspections assess the efficiency and effectiveness of office-level components, addressing areas such as mission accomplishment, management performance, and utilization of resources.
  • Issue inspections address topics that usually cut across directorate lines and affect broad segments of the CIA.

The Office of Investigations is composed of professionally trained investigators who conduct investigations of alleged fraud, waste, abuse, mismanagement, and violations of laws, rules, or regulations, or other wrongdoing brought to the attention of the OIG.
