In 2015, 64% of physicians had an electronic health record (EHR) with the capability to exchange secure messages with patients, 63% of physicians had the capability for their patients to electronically view their medical record, 41% had the capability for patients to download their medical record, and 19% had the capability for patients to electronically send (transmit) their medical record to a third party. Since 2008, office-based physician adoption of any EHRs has more than doubled, from 42% to 87%, while adoption of Basic EHRs has more than tripled from 17% to 54%. From 2011 to 2014, 97 hacking incidents affected less than 4 million individuals - less than 10% of all reported breaches and affected individuals during this time.
